The most practical choice would be simple black calf captoes, no broguing whatsoever. Make sure it is highly polished with a mirror shine. If you are in London, go see Justin Fitzpatrick, the shoe polisher at Gieves & Hawkes!
The most elegant, classic (but least practical) choice would be patent opera pumps.
If you want to put a twist on it, black slippers or my own personal idiosyncrasy: black suede wholecuts.
